Reunions
The highlight of the Society's year is the Annual Reunion and Lunch. This usually takes place on a Saturday in October.
2008 Reunion - this year the Reunion Luncheon will be held on 11th October
As in recent years, we will meet again in the Assembly Hall of the "New" school (now known as the North Wing of Fortismere School)
And because it will be 50 years since Boys and Girls joined each other in one building, the OTS will be making a special feature, with photographs and other memorabilia from the period. Anyone who can contribute photographs (ideal if they have been scanned into digital files, but not essential) or other articles, will be welcomed with open arms!
As the year progresses, more information about the event will be posted here.
154 attend the 2007 Reunion
The largest attendance in recent years was seen on Saturday 6th October, 2007. The assembly Hall of the 1956 building (now Fortismere South Wing) in Tetherdown was filled to capacity (and slightly over, as some tables took more than the usual 10 places). The celebration began with champagne, followed by a few formalities, which our president, Frank Rhodes, conducted in his usual efficient style.
Frank conducted the election of Luncheon Committe members, each of whom will be very pleased to hear from OTs any feedback; suggestions for improvement etc. These are Maurice Escow (Chair),Jenny Harrold, Stella Price, David Bell, Raymond Cave, Allan Bordoley, Allan Rutherford and Rex Sills.
The celebration then continued with a four-course meal. Initial feedback seems to give the caterers good marks for coping with the large numbers. No complaints reached the writer's ears of anyone's lunch arriving cold. As a departure from recent reunions, this year the ticket price included wine. A cheerful, sometimes boisterous, atmosphere soon built up. This reached its climax with the announcement of England's rugger victory over Australia.
As usual the reunion spilled over into late afternoon and evening for many - and as usual the venue was the John Baird.
This year the luncheon committee thought the event went off quite smoothly: we didn't seem to have the usual hiccups. But that was just how we saw it; maybe you saw it differently. If so, please get in touch with anyone on the committee to make your views known.
